Any and all info pertaining to the world of Seredel is posted here.

Important Information Seredel

The young continent of Seredel is divided into five distinct countries:

Gaziara - Wide, rolling plains dominate much of Gaziara, cities visible from miles away. To the south lie the most expansive plains, roamed by various bands of nomads. In the north, the plains give way to a hilly landsape, rising high above sea level as the Olorr Mountains draw closer. Gaziara is the wealthiest and most powerful country in Seredel, ruled over by a group of 15 elected officials, called the Gaziaran Council. Located in Dellamar, the Council controls the laws across the entire country, though rumors of corruption have surfaced in recent years. This has not stopped Dellamar from quickly becoming a force in the political world, however. It has become the base for any important decisions that need to be made regarding the straining relations between Dragons and Humans. The Head Councilman, Dietrich Manheim, is a hard-nosed, no-nonsense businessman, who is overtly racist against all non-humans. This has earned the entire Council more than a few votes of distrust, as some fear the tension with the Dragons will erupt into war if Manheim is not removed from his position.

Along the coast of the Conterion Sea sits the port city of Cyrus. Ships pour in and out of its majestic harbor, its favorable weather and fantastic location making it the largest city in the land. The town of Luxor, the infamous hub for gossip and information, is located near the Palmiran border. Though it is certainly a small town, it is famous around Seredel as a neutral town that will harbor anyone, Human, Dragon, or anything in-between. The people of Luxor have good ears for gossip, as many people pass through the town every day, and so any adventurer worth his while stops in at least once every journey, for some information and for a drink at Luxor’s famous bar, the Tipsy Squirrel. Where the bar got its name is uncertain, but there are many stories floating around.

The mayor of Luxor, Archibald Jackson, was elected at the age of 51, and because the (permanent) residents of Luxor seem to shy away from change, he has been re-elected 5 times, for a grand total of 20 years in office. His age seems to be catching up with him, however, and he is nearly senile. As this is his final year of his most recent term, it is generally agreed between the people that a new mayor is needed, one who can make decisions without having to be told the dispute six times over. Despite this, Archie still holds the affections of everyone, Luxorian or not. Luxor has become a natural destination for adventurers, and no one seems to have anything bad to say about the humble town.

Rednell - Rachel Reene, President of Rednell (and first female official in Seredel), has her hands full. Rednell has a terribly scarred past that keeps coming back to haunt it. Being at separate times an enemy of Ambersol, Tundara, and Gaziara, Rednell constantly finds itself angering other countries. Add to this constant and numerous internal rebellions, such as the civil war between Trikanta and Crosel that has strained relationships between the two cities to this day, and you have not only a recipe for disaster, but the basic history of Rednell.

A short while ago, the previous President of Rednell, James Reene, was killed. In his succession (as law dictates that elections may only be held every 5 years, regardless of circumstances) was his only child, Rachel, and her ascent to rule has caused much controversy within her city. One man in particular was against this decision more so than anyone else: Rachel's very own first cousin, Travis Reene. He feels that the rule rightfully belongs to him, as he was the closest male relative of the late President. However, the President had had poor relations with his brother, the father of Travis, and ultimately disowned him, thus ruling Travis out as successor, placing Rachel in power instead.

In turn, Travis has convinced many citizens of Rednell that no woman is fit for ruling a rough country, and that a man, such as Travis, should take rule. This has instigated many uprisings, some of which have led to numerous casualties, staining the streets of Rednell with blood once again. But despite her gender, and what many citizens of Rednell believe, Rachel is a strong and intelligent ruler, who only wishes the best for her country. Although Rednell's army is large and valorous, it is split between Rachel’s nationalists and Travis’s loyalists, causing a devastating civil war. Other countries are fearful to act out and assist, as they don't want their cities to go into uprising over supporting a female ruler. But if something isn't done soon, Redwood may have to go under Martial Law and answer to the iron fist of Colonel Kusmanov... and even that may not stop the impending anarchy.

Ambersol - Blanketed in thick forests and spotted with crystal-clear lakes, Ambersol is a beautiful location, and the benevolent rule of King Daughtry II allowed it to flourish with little threat of conflict. King Daughtry II was quite possibly the greatest king Ambersol has seen in its history, and he is generally regarded by the current generation as such. It wasn’t long ago, however, that he was assassinated, bringing an end to what could be called the Glory Days of Ambersol. Following in his footsteps is his son, aptly named King Daughtry III. Though he garners the respect that his title deserves, his father was such an incredible ruler that nothing Daughtry III does could match him. The capital, Klint, is quickly rivaling Cyrus as the largest city in Seredel. Klint is the shining jewel of the Empire, the King’s throne situated in its massive palace. But to the southwest lies Graw, withering in Klint’s shadow. Corruption and crime run rampant among its streets, and the King turns a blind eye to it all.

Ambersol is known far and wide as a port country, an avid trader, and one of the best. Sea and land trade in particular with Gaziara and Rednell has bolstered the economy of Ambersol, making it one of the wealthiest regions in Seredel. However, the routes established by the current King's father, which were a large reason for his success, are now in danger, as pirates have wreaked havoc upon the valiant trading vessels of Ambersol. This in turn has caused King Daughtry III to put some of his well-trained troops onboard the vessels to keep the pirates at bay. This would normally seem like common sense, but it does nothing more than further tarnish the reputation and image of Daughtry III; the land routes set up by the former King have also been plagued with banditry. With much of his army at sea, Daughtry III has been forced to drain the city's funds employing high-priced mercenaries. Ambersol's army is simply not large enough to encompass so many tasks, not to mention protecting the castle and the city walls as well. This has enraged the people, as the mercenary forces hired by the King are seen as wasted funds that could be used for many other things in Ambersol that need renewal, one of the most prominent being the Grand Library, which contains fictional classics written by some of Seredel's finest authors, as well as all of the Ambersol public records.

People continue to compare the current king to his father, and some consider him a complete failure. This has placed much worry in King Daughtry III, as almost any decision he makes will harm his own city in one way or another. He feels trapped and continues not to act when he needs to make important decisions.

Palmira - The Olorr Mountains in the northeast flatten out as they head west, turning into a vast and nigh-impenetrable desert. The Khas-Kavan Village offers the sole refuge in the harsh sands, though few even attempt the venture to or from it. At the edge of the desert sits the two main cities of Palmira, Dankron and Delios. Dankron, originally a Gaziaran fort, is a town developed from war, and has seen little prosperity, though no major tragedies either. It's one of the smallest cities on the continent of Seredel, and its people, in comparison to other people in Seredel, are generally poorer and less educated. On the brink of being considered a backwater town, Dankron is quite possibly the most forgettable town on the entire continent, but the people don't seem to mind. What is most odd about Dankron is its mayor. The people know neither the name nor the face of the mayor. Only few people of nobility know who he is, and this enigmatic figure rarely sets foot in his own land, instead traveling constantly, for reasons unknown.

However, Dankron's claim to fame is definitely as a major trade outpost. Being in the center of the continent, Dankron sees many different caravans from all different corners of Seredel, and yet with no stable merchants of its own, it fails to prosper. Dankron’s “army” regiment is about the size of Gaziara's peasant militia (and is just as glamorous). But, regardless, Dankron is a generally cheery, easy-going town with little going for it, though nothing going against it. Nothing amazing happens there, but nothing bad does either, and so the people live their lives, happy and care-free.

In Delios sits the King of Palmira, the young King Bibyl, cousin of King Daughtry III of Ambersol. The two had never been particularly close, but when Bibyl rose to power before the older Daughtry III, the latter became highly envious. Out of this envy, Daughtry III assassinated his father in order to ascend to power. After an investigation, blame was placed on Garrett, the father of Bibyl and Daughtry II's brother. Garrett was executed for treason, and thus let Daughtry III ascend to power as King. Blinded by greed and jealously, he had little idea how difficult it was to rule a kingdom, nor how hard it would be to follow in his father's footsteps. However, his dark secret was discovered by Bibyl, and he now holds it against Daughtry III, in order to get him to do his bidding. This in turn has widened their simply competitive rivalry to true hatred. If Bibyl wished it, Palmira could have almost complete control over the actions of Ambersol.

Tundara - Tundara is the land of the Dragons. There are two distinct races of Dragons: Dridians and Styxians. They are almost identical to each other, save for slight nuances that are, for the most part, only identifiable by Dragons. Dragons are a proud and envious race, and will not hesitate to exile one of their own for the slightest offenses to their race.

Nestled high in the peaks of the Olorr Mountains lies the aptly-named city of Olorr, pride of the Dragons. Its majestic spires curl upwards into the mist, visible from miles away. In Olorr resides one of the most powerful figures on the continent: the Lord of the Dragon tribes, Garrulious’aniah. The Lordship in Tundara is based around military strength: if you have enough strength or followers to challenge the current Lord, doing so is not only allowed, it is actually encouraged, to test your mettle. Assassination attempts, though, actually occur LESS frequently under this system - no self-respecting Dragon would hide in the shadows if he wished to dethrone the Lord. Lord Garrulious rose to power when he took down the former Lord, Lord Derdray. The people don’t love him so much as fear him, and with good reason. Many think he may bring the Dragon tribes into war with the Humans.

Lord Ghaban’ablist was the first Lord of Tundara. At the time of his death, his son, Ghaban II, was too young to take the throne, at only age 42, so a tournament was held to decide the new Lord, effectively starting Tundara’s unorthodox style of choosing rulers. The winner, Milanos’atelia, was crowned King. He ruled for 89 years, until Ghaban II was old enough and powerful enough to challenge Milanos. He defeated the Lord, and subsequently became Lord himself. In any other country, Ghaban II would have been seen as a great ruler; he worked to pacify the tension between Dridians and Styxians. However, the prideful Dragons were too set in their ways to accept such a drastic change. As such, challenges to the Lord increased in volume, but Ghaban II defeated every challenger, except one - his son, Derdray’ablist. At the young age of 149, he dethroned his father, but couldn’t bring himself to finish him off, instead allowing him to become an advisor. It was twelve years later that Garrulious’aniah stepped up, publicly defeating not only Lord Derdray, but also his son AND his father. With the entire family line gone, Garrulious had definitively earned his place as Tundara’s ruling Lord.

A brief overview of the races that inhabit Seredel:

Humans - Humans are by far the most populous of the races, inhabiting a vast majority of the world, from Palmira to Rednell, and everywhere in between. They are the youngest race to inhabit Seredel, yet the most vain, and their arrival has brought nothing but conflict to the world.

Dragons - Dragons are intelligent, bipedal, and covered with a thick hide that once rendered them impervious to most weapons. But as skirmishes broke out between Dragons and Humans, the Humans began to develop new, sharper weapons that would pierce this hide. Obsidian is the most commonly-used material for these weapons, as it seems to slice through Dragonskin like butter. Next to Avelords, Dragons are the eldest and wisest race on Seredel, and can live for hundreds of years. Standing at about double the height of an average Human, they are formidable creatures, and can support this image with their immense strength and the ability to breathe fire. Dragons do not have vocal cords like other creatures, instead communicating through a form of telepathy in which they can “speak” their thoughts to those around them, or focus the thought and have a private conversation with an individual. Dragons also have the ability to morph into a Humanoid form, though they are easily distinguishable from real Humans, and do not use this skill often; Dragons see Humans as inferior beings. They are extremely proud creatures, and will not hesitate to exile one of their own for the slightest offenses to their race.

Elves - The Elves of Seredel are not the fair creatures of lore; these Elves are sinister, vile beings that live in forests and caves. Though roughly Human in appearance, they have dark, wrinkled skin and fangs like a vampire’s. They are both proud and vicious and will not hesitate to attack any non-Elf that strays into their midst. In fact, the only thing remotely similar between the Elves of Seredel and those of fairy tales is their mastery of the bow and arrow. The Forest Elves and Cave Elves have been at war for as long as anyone can remember, each seeing the other as a gross misrepresentation of their race. They have also been known to tame wyverns: creatures similar to Dragons, though they walk on four legs, are unable to breathe fire, and are by no means as intelligent. In effect, wyverns are simply flying horses.

Makarai - Dive deep below Seredel’s oceans and you may very well stumble across a settlement of Makarai. They are almost shark-like in appearance, with a tubular body and rows of razor-sharp fangs, though with long fins that act as arms and a bulbous head almost resembling that of a Human. Their body is covered in a slimy film that lets them slide through the water at astounding speeds. They are a hideous yet peaceful race, though interaction between them and any other race is rare; a Makar has the ability to breathe above water for a short time (similar to any other race holding their breath underwater), but for the most part, they prefer to remain safe in their villages at the bottom of the sea. The Makarai are the only race on Seredel that does not speak Serenese, instead communicating through a series of high-pitched whistles, almost similar to the noises of dolphins.

Avelords - Birdlike and the size of a crow, Avelords have long wings that, when spread, nearly double the length of their bodies. From behind they can be mistaken for a common bird, but not from the front, for they have snouts instead of beaks. They come in a variety of mostly soft hues - purples, blues, blacks - the exact shade denoting how long the Avelord has been alive: they can live for thousands of years, and every few centuries they molt, changing the color of their plumage. They are the wisest and most knowledgeable creatures on the planet, with a love for storytelling. As such, they have become the historians of Seredel, though none of their stories have ever been written down, as Avelords have a tremendous memory (and besides, wings aren’t very conducive to writing). They prefer to remain secluded, and rarely enter densely populated areas.

IMPORTANT ICONS
All dragons are shown here in their human forms.

Important Information BibylKing Bibyl - The just King of Palmira, Bibyl is a serene yet powerful ruler. He commands many of the land’s finest, such as his Honor Guard, the Dragon Kalvin, and the renowned Palmiran general, Frederick Jorges.

Important Information JorgesFrederick Jorges - The loyal general of Palmira is one of the most famous and well-respected nobles in all of Seredel. Jorges instructs his troops with both pride and determination, and has never been known to falter.

Important Information KalvinKalvin’amaxim - Loyal retainer to King Bibyl, Kalvin is one of the few Dragons to have good relations with Humans. Not much is known about him, but the people feel that the King is in good hands.

Important Information DaughtryKing Daughtry III - The slightly incompetent King of Ambersol has yet to do anything of much importance, other than assassinating his father to take the throne. However, this fact is known only to Daughtry III and his cousin, King Bibyl.

Important Information GarruliousLord Garrulious’aniah - The powerful Lord of the Dragons, Garrulious has been sitting on the throne since his besting of Lord Derdray 211 years ago. With an iron fist, he is always the first to strike, and he is often seen on the battlefield.

Important Information MalishGeneral Malish’adrikal - The regal general of Tundara is a cunning tactician, one who will use any means to achieve his ends. With a quick wit and the strength of a dragon to back it up, Malish is not a force to be taken lightly.

Important Information RachelRachel Reene - Reene is the first female ruler in Seredel, and has only been in office for a little over a year. She rules the war-scarred Rednell with the sole hope that war will not start again.

Important Information KusmanovDimitri Kusmanov - Rachel Reene’s right-hand man, Colonel Kusmanov runs Rednell’s military with a very tight grip. He keeps his troops in line through intimidation, as he is trying to avoid any defectment to Travis Reene’s loyalists. He secretly hopes Rednell will go under Martial Law, which would allow him to exert a tremendous amount of power.

Important Information TravisTravis Reene -Rachel Reene’s cousin, and the leader of the Loyalists, a combination of defectors from the Rednell army and citizen volunteers. He does not appreciate the idea of a woman in charge of an entire country, and stages revolts in the hopes of overthrowing her government.

Important Information ArchieArchibald Jackson - Archie is the benevolent and near-senile mayor of Luxor that was elected into office twenty years ago, and is now nearing the end of his term. He loosely monitors Luxor, ruling his town with only the people’s loyalty towards him.

Important Information ManheimDietrich Manheim - The current Head Councilman of Gaziara. He is a particularly despised figure, as his radical Humans-only stance has earned nothing but rage from Dragons across the land. His seat on the council may be in jeopardy.

Important Information WaringWilson Waring -The current General of Gaziara, Waring is concerned with Manheim’s policies, and is a large voice in the group trying to impeach him. He is a likeable fellow, though how he became General is in question, for his leadership abilities are lackluster.

Important Information TalonThomas “Talon” Ardelmoor - The former Gaziaran general and current orb salesman, Talon is respected throughout Luxor and the rest of Seredel as a rough, yet genial man. He constantly longs for his glory days in the Gaziaran army.

Important Information CooperRyan Cooper - One of the most renowned arena fighters in all of Seredel, Cooper is a peaceful vigilante, who is on a personal mission to settle the heated relations between the Dragons and the Humans. He is a powerful and awe-inspiring fighter, though he has set his blade aside for the time being.

Important Information CarthalCarthal’aldray - Not much is known about Carthal, other than the fact that Ryan Cooper is rarely seen without him. This has raised a few eyebrows, for though Carthal is a loyal friend to Cooper, the idea of a Dragon and a Human allying for peace is a radical ideal.
